What you will learn in this course:

Mondays – Prophetic Prayers: – Studying the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through the unique lense of his personal dua’s

• In the course of my study of seerah I could not help but notice that the entire life of the Prophet Muhammad peace be on him could be mapped out and identified by something very unique. Dua (prayers). At every single juncture or event in his life you would see the power of prayer. I researched and gathered to collect them in one and hopefully will publish a book one day that will discuss the power of Prophetic Prayers in the life of the Prophet Muhammad peace be on him. His life began with prayer and ended in prayer. Studying the life of the Prophet Muhammad peace be on him through the lense of his personal prayers is one the most powerful ways to appreciate him.

Tuesdays – Commentary on Salvation from Misguidance (translated as “Deliverance from Error”) by Al Ghazali رحمه الله and Book of Assistance by Imam Al Haddad رحمه الله

• Spirituality no doubt has a path that is set. The scholars of our past described what is one of the greatest aspects of our faith – filling the voids that can only be fulfilled by knowing our connection to the Almighty.Imam Al Ghazali’s short, but impactful, text, “Salvation from Misguidance,” is a text that is famously known as partly an auto biography mapping out his own spiritual journey. What makes Al Ghazali so relatable is that he actually shows his own vulnerablity. It is in reading this very accessible language and honesty that made Al Ghazali’s works so impactful. This text has been translated multiple times as “Deliverance from Error” and we hope to in this class dive into re reading this text as it’s supposed to be – Al Ghazali speaking to the heart of the person he’s addressing; not an academic and dry text that is bereft of emotion and devotional spirituality.
  Al Ghazali speaks about some of the impediments to spiritual connection that were present in his time, we will also of course discuss some contemporary blocks that stop us from spiritually connecting and blocking us from truly connecting with our faith (contemporary spiritual road blocks).Of course, as we finish discussing the path – we must actually begin to speak about the path to take! Hence why we dive into the work Book of Assistance by Imam Al Haddad رحمه الله who is known to simplify Al Ghazali and contemporize him in all of his works on spirituality. The Book of Assistance is an amazingly short, yet profoundly practical book. When we couple understanding salvation from misguidance with what to do, it helps us navigate our own spiritual journey.

This course is suitable for anyone.

Audiences should be able to cognitively understand the material and ask poignant questions (the class is not suitable for children who cannot).
