Program Description:
This is a guided-reading course designed for those learning Arabic who would like to practice the grammar and morphology they’ve studied by reading a classical Tafsir of Surah Al Fatihah. The text selected this year is the amazing work by Ibn Juzay al-Andulusi (d. 741H). The tafsir of Ibn Juzay is well respected by scholars and full of benefit. Through this course we will learn the meanings of this amazing surah with a certain level of detail through Arabic. The text has limited harakat (vowel markings), but students will be guided by the instructor.
Special emphasis will be placed on the concepts learned through Legacy Arabic terms 1-4 (if one has not covered Legacy Arabic no problem!) practical application of concepts includes and is not limited to: verbs in the triliteral root and derived forms with sound and weak verbs, and various other grammar concepts.
Students are expected to read a page or two before class and try their best to understand the content on their own. The instructor will call on students to read the text and translate.

Who Is This For?
This course is suitable for anyone who has started to learn Arabic (grammar and morphology) and is interested in maintaining what they’ve learned this Ramadan by reading tafsir in Arabic. This class is not suitable for absolute beginners, however they may still find benefit in this course.
