Commentary on Sh.Ḥātim Al-ʿAwnī’s explanation of Imām Al-Dhahabī’s introductory manual on ḥadīth sciences, Al-Mūqiẓah
This class will cover Sh. Ḥātim al-ʿAwnī’s commentary on Imām Al-Dhahabī’s well-known manual on ḥadīth sciences, al-Mūqiẓah. This is an excellent manual for students to cover the fundamental issues of Muṣṭalaḥ al-Ḥadīth in a deep fashion. This particular work is unique because of Sh. Ḥātim’s unique treatment of difficult issues or frequently overlooked topics. The class will give the participant a solid foundation to pursue further studies in various ḥadīth disciplines.
This course will be followed by another on the well-known book, Maʿrifat Anwāʿ ʿIlm al-Ḥadīth by Ibn al-Ṣalāḥ al-Shahrazūrī, one of the most important works in the field. Thereafter, students will progress onto other more advanced texts, which too will be studied in future courses.
Delivered given in English, the course will consist of a full reading of the Arabic text and commentary. The reading of the Arabic text will also be valuable to students seeking to improve their Arabic reading comprehension.
Prerequisites:
– Fluency in reading Arabic (mandatory)
– Basic understanding of the ḥadīth sciences (recommended)
This course is an On-Demand download of video and audio at your convenience. It is not a live course. There is a group to ask questions and interact with the instructor.
Each session is 1.5 hr max.
We recommend that attendees set aside 1 to 2 hours extra outside of the class for readings and optional assignments.
